I never liked the idea of a relationship \u201cpause.\u201d It\u2019s either on or it\u2019s off. But when my boyfriend said he needed time and space to \u201cwork on himself,\u201d I didn\u2019t argue. I just didn\u2019t expect him to come back six weeks later yelling that I\u2019d failed some test he made up in his head.<\/span><\/p>\n

I texted him a few times after he left \u2014 once to make sure he landed safely, once to ask him to say hi to his mom for me. No reply. I called and left a voicemail. \u201cHey\u2026 are we still together?\u201d Still nothing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After a week, I started accepting what I didn\u2019t want to believe: he\u2019d ghosted me. My friends said the same. It was like he wanted to disappear without saying the words out loud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
