President Donald Trump held his first State of the Union address for his second term on Monday. While raging against Democrats, praising veterans and promising a bright future for the Americans, he unexpectedly also took a swipe at his wife, Melania Trump.<\/p>\n

Depending on which side of the aisle you\u2019d ask, Donald Trump\u2019s State of the Union address was either a huge success or a fiasco. The speech was the longest in modern history, at approximately one hour and 48 minutes.<\/p>\n

During his State of the Union speech, President Donald Trump didn\u2019t only speak about what he wanted for America, but also about Democrats being \u201ccrazy\u201d and stated he had overseen a \u201cturnaround for the ages\u201d regarding the economy.<\/p>\n

In addition, the 79-year-old took a moment to talk about his wife, First Lady Melania Trump. He didn\u2019t just talk about politics \u2014 he also made a joking comment about how popular Melania is.<\/p>\n

The president praised what she has done over the past year \u2014 from work on foster care to AI issues \u2014 and pointed to her new Amazon documentary. Still, he paused and made a funny remark about how people seem to like her more than him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody cares more about protecting America\u2019s youth than our first lady \u2014 she\u2019s now a movie star, can you believe it? Who would\u2019ve believed that?\u201d Trump said. \u201cOver the past year she\u2019s had an incredible impact, implementing AI legislation, advancing a landmark executive order on foster care and securing 30 million dollars to launch the Melania Trump foster youth to independence initiative. It\u2019s tremendous.\u201d<\/p>\n

After that, he made the light joke that got people talking:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really tremendous thing that happened and she got a lot of bipartisan support. She gets much better bipartisan support than I do. I get none, she gets a lot. Some day you\u2019re going to have to tell me how you did that!\u201d<\/p>\n

Melania Trump approval rating<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In other words, Trump was saying that Melania gets more support from both Republicans and Democrats than he does. A lot of people saw it as a gentle tease rather than a serious criticism of his wife.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, polls show Melania isn\u2019t overwhelmingly popular with voters right now. A recent YouGov survey found her approval rating is currently negative, lower than that of some former first ladies.<\/p>\n

As per the survey, Melania has a -16 approval rating, which is lower than the previous first lady, Jill Biden (-9). Still, Melania has a higher approval rating than Hilary Clinton, who polled at -17.<\/p>\n

Other First Lady\u2019s has considerably higher approval ratings. Nancy Reagan stands at +25, Lady Bird Johnson at +23, Rosalynn Carter at +32, and Barbara Bush at +21. Michelle Obama got +21, and Laura Bush got +19.<\/p>\n
